Environmental Compliance and Permitting Specialist

A growing waste management company is looking to add an Environmental Permitting & Compliance Specialist to their team. This role will be responsible for ensuring compliance with environmental protection regulations, submitting necessary permits and assisting the company with meeting future environmental compliance requirements. The Environmental Permitting & Compliance specialist will support multiple sites across Ontario and USA within the business division, working closely with Operations and Development teams and report to the EHS Director.

The Role:

  • Oversee the management of environmental permits and reporting across designated sites.
  • Support in acquiring new permits and evaluate permits for new sites and acquisitions.
  • Conduct thorough research to comprehend regulations at state/provincial, federal, and local levels relevant to operations.
  • Generate internal and governmental reports on a yearly, quarterly, and monthly basis as necessary.
  • Conduct inspections at all sites, documenting records and site conditions, and compiling detailed reports.
  • Enhance and establish procedures to ensure compliance at each site.
  • Monitor and manage progress and corrective measures across all sites.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Sciences or a similar field required
  • Minimum 3 years of experience with environmental permitting and compliance
  • Comfortable working in an industrial environment
  • In-depth knowledge of environmental regulatory and compliance requirements
  • Experience with both Canadian and USA regulations preferred
  • Ability to work independently
  • Strong project management skills and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to travel up 50-75% to support sites across Ontario and USA
